Parents & Children

When children hold a kitten in their arms, or shake paws with a dog, they are fostering a humane ethic. Stratford-Perth Human Society Camps focus on humane education through animal interactions, games, activities, learning exercises and guest presenters. Camps promote the intrinsic value animals have on improving quality of life, and teach children how to advocate for the respectful and compassionate treatment of all living things.

Jr. Vets in Training (ages 7 – 10) and Vets in Training (Ages 10 – 14)

The Stratford-Perth Humane Society is excited to introduce our JR and Redular Vets in Training programs!

These are sessions for children aspiring to be a vet or to work with animals in the future. These workshops will give children hands-on experience with animals. These workshops are taught by our on-site veterinarian, veterinary technicians, special guests, and education coordinator.

The programs runs for six weeks and each workshop is two hours in length. Each session is lesson focused, and lessons are conducted in a classroom setting, so VIT is best suited for children who love to learn.

Children ages 7 – 10 can participate in the JR session, and ages 10 to 14 can participate in the VIT session. The club is restricted to 15 children so participants can get up close and experience hands-on practice.

Throughout the weeks, VITs will learn subjects such as anatomy, physical exams, parasites, proper nutrition and grooming, suturing (teddy bear surgery for JRs, and learning to suture for VITs), and more.

Spots will fill quickly, so get your animal lover signed up ASAP!

Next JR session (7 – 10) : Thursdays January 24th – February 28th
Time: 6:00 – 8:00pm
Cost: $300

Next VIT session (10 – 14) : Wednesdays, April 17th – May 22nd
